Caffeinate Your Business – Google Launches New Search Index
Earlier this month Google launched its new indexing system called Caffeine. The name fits because this new system is all about speed. As social media continues to grow, Google needed a more efficient system for indexing this information if they wanted to continue their push towards immediacy. Google States in their blog that Caffeine provides 50% fresher search results than the previous index system.
The nuts and bolts of Search Indexing and Google Caffeine

Indexing is the process of adding web pages to Google’s and other search engines’ databases. Google is constantly scanning the Internet looking for new and updated web content. Search engines are such an integral part of the Internet because they store virtually the entire Internet in there massive databases and then retrieve the appropriate information based on a users search terms. It may be hard to imagine at this point, but consider how difficult it would be to navigate the web without the help of a search engine. How would you find information? How would you find new websites?
Google’s old indexing system was built on several layers. These layers would be refreshed at different rates, with the main layer being updated every couple weeks. Before refreshing a layer of the old index, Google would analyze the entire Internet. In today’s Internet with large quantities of real time content, images, video, and news, the old system was becoming inefficient.
Google Caffeine analyzes the web in smaller portions and then updates the search index continuously. Google has removed the delay between finding information and then adding that information to the search index. This creates a much more efficient indexing system and fresher content. Google states that Caffeine processes hundreds of thousands of web pages per second in parallel. They go on to say that if this was a pile of paper it would grow 3 miles taller every second.
How Caffeine can Help Your Business
It is no secret that search engines love quality content. The goal of a search engine is to serve the highest quality, most relevant search results for each users query. As a business owner, it is challenging to create a website that serves a commercial purpose and still has enough content to please the search engines. With the release of Google Caffeine it has become even more important for your business to embrace ongoing content creation. The more quality, helpful, and keyword rich content your company produces, the bigger your Internet foot print will be. Each web page represents a point of entry for your website. Caffeine will lesson the time it takes to get your points of entry into Googles search index.
If your company has not added a corporate blog to your website, now is the time. The easiest way to add quality content to a commercial website is through a blog. Blogs establish your company as a leader, provides content to share across social networks (Facebook, Linkedin, Twitter, etc.), and can greatly increase search engine ranking. Google built a search engine index that would index the web at a faster rate. They stated in their blog that since launching Caffeine, search results will be 50% fresher. It doesn’t take a genius to see that Google is saying the more consistent your company is at adding new quality content to your website, the better your website will do in the search results.
