New Linkedin Features Enhance Content Sharing

This week Linkedin announced several enhancements that make it easier for you to share content with your network. If you are unfamiliar with Linkedin, it is a professional networking site where you can go to make business contacts, search for jobs, and find new clients. A lot of the changes are similar to the content sharing that is available on Facebook and Twitter. What’s most exciting about these changes is the combination of better content sharing and the fact that people go to Linkedin to conduct business. With Facebook and Twitter you need to be careful how you bring business into the conversation. On Linkedin everyone is on the site for business, so it is not a breach of etiquette to start with business related conversations.

What has Changed

As I mentioned above, a lot of the changes help you share content similar to Facebook and Twitter. This opens up a lot of possibilities given Linkedin’s background. Some of the changes include:

  • Privacy settings – decide who will see your updates. Everyone vs. only your connections, groups, or certain people.
  • Re-share feature – allows you to share content posted by someone else with your connections.
  • Preview, edit, or delete – You now have the ability to preview, edit, or delete your updates.
  • Shortened Lnkd.in urls – These shorter urls are available to make it easier to share content.
  • Twitter integration – post your update to both Linkedin and Twitter at the same time.

Smart marketers will be posting to Linkedin on a regular basis keeping their content fresh and their connections engaged. To better understand the new changes I posted a video from Linkedin below.
