When Google burst onto the scene their search engine quickly grew in popularity because it worked better. The basic idea of a search engine is to take the massive amount of information that makes up the Internet and make it easier to navigate. Google, with its patented algorithm, has been able to serve more relevant search results to its users. Google’s algorithm is called Page Rank.
What is Google Page Rank
Google Page Rank, named after Google co-founder Larry Page, is a measure of a websites relevancy and credibility. Nobody outside of Google knows for sure the exact formula for calculating Page Rank, but it is widely accepted that in-bound links are one of the biggest factors. In-bound links are weighted so heavily because Google feels that in-bound links are a measure of credibility. If highly credible websites link back to your site, then Google figures your website must have great content. Since a search engine’s primary function is to serve quality, relevant content to their user, sites with great content will rank higher.
Increase Your Site’s Page Rank
Before you can start building Google Page Rank you need to know what your site’s current page rank is. You can find out by going to the website www.prchecker.info. Input your website and hit submit. Your site will be measured on a scale of 0-10. The higher the page rank the better.
If you have a relatively new domain, or are a smaller business, chances are you will have a page rank of 0-2. A few ways to increase your page rank are:
- List your website in high Page Rank, SEO friendly directories
- Ask for links to your site from all your vendors, associations, and any government / education websites that you do business with
- Create great content that is worth linking too (having a corporate blog will help with this)
- Participate in social media
Increasing your site’s page rank will increase your websites credibility in the eyes of the search engines. If you are serious about increasing your websites search engine rankings, then you will want to have a strategy for increasing Google Page Rank.
