Your Website: A Neglected Employee – Part 2: Taking Inventory
Before we know where we need to go we must take note of where we currently are. What is the current situation of your website? What is the need? There is not a clear-cut answer to these questions that will fit everyone’s website. When you decide to hire a new employee, there’s usually a good reason for it. You may need someone to take care of your customers, make sales, create a marketing campaign, or pay the bills. Whatever the reason, you looked at your current situation and found a need to change. How does this compare to a website?
The biggest mistake we see companies make is never knowing exactly where they currently stand with their website. They never take inventory. The majority of business owners don’t know how many visitors come to the their site everyday/week/month, etc. They don’t know where their visitors are coming from or what pages they are leaving from most often. They don’t know how long visitors stay on their site and they don’t know what keywords they use to get there. This is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to knowing where your website currently stands. All these pieces of information are part of the puzzle that, when properly put together, help form a customizable Internet marketing plan that creates success.
As with everything in life, it’s important to know where you are so you can clearly see what it takes to get to where you want to be. The way we do this on the Internet is by using the right tools – Google Analytics.
