Your Website: A Neglected Employee – Part 4: Training Your Employee – Search Engine Optimization (SEO)

It wouldn’t be the wisest decision to hire a new employee and just let them loose.  You would want to make sure they are professional, knowledgeable of your products / services, understand your business processes, and are comfortable talking to prospects.  Your employee is an entity of your company, and could be the first interaction they have with your organization.  You want it to be the best it can be.  The same holds true for your website.  Many times your website is the first interaction your prospects have with your company and it should be the best it possibly can be.  Your website should be prepared to meet and greet your prospects.  Once this is taken care of, you should be training your website to attract your customers and prospects.  This is achieved through Search Engine Optimization, or SEO.

SEO is the ongoing process of making onsite and offsite adjustments to achieve improved natural, or organic (free), search engine ranking.  Having a properly optimized website will increase your search engine ranking, increase the number of prospects coming to your site, and lead to more customers.

There are two parts to SEO: onsite and offsite improvements.  Onsite improvements to your site include: keyword development, meta tag creation, and site map creation.  Key Offsite improvements to your site include: search engine submission, link campaigns, and blogs.

  • 70% of Internet searchers do not look past the first page of search results
  • 90% of Internet searchers do not look past the second page of search results

Training your website to position itself to get the most visibility on the search engines will only lead to increased traffic to your site and money in the bank.
